🛡️ SCAM ALERT: The “Priya Agarwal” Pig Butchering Case

Date: February 7, 2026

Victim Profile: 50-year-old Investor, Bengaluru, India

Total Loss: ₹70 Lakhs (~$77000 USD)

Platform: Telegram / WhatsApp

Threat Actor: “Priya Agarwal” (Liverpool, UK Persona)

🚨 THE INCIDENT OVERVIEW

In the early hours of February 7, 2026, Bengaluru’s East Cyber Crime Police registered a devastating case of “Financial Grooming,” popularly known as Pig Butchering. A private firm employee was targeted via a “Wrong Number” message on Telegram. Over a period of two months, the attacker used emotional intimacy and a fabricated lifestyle of wealth to lure the victim into a fake Bitcoin trading environment.

🎣 THE ANATOMY OF THE “HUMAN HACK”

The scam followed a textbook psychological warfare manual:

  1. The Innocent Entry: A message intended for “Rahul.” When the victim replied, “Wrong number,” the scammer (Priya) used it as a bridge to start a casual conversation.
  2. The “Flirting Loss” Factor: This case highlights a painful trend. Scammers use beautiful Display Pictures (DPs) and a “damsel in distress” or “successful lonely woman” persona. Many men fall into the trap of trying to flirt or impress the woman, which lowers their logical defenses.
  3. The “Fattening”: Priya shared “lifestyle photos” and talked about her $3.1M Bitcoin profits. She “guided” him to a fake trading link, where he saw his initial ₹50,000 investment “grow” instantly.
  4. The Slaughter: Once the victim took loans and invested his life savings (₹70 Lakhs), the platform showed a fake balance of ₹2.6 Crore ($3.1M). When he tried to withdraw, the account was “frozen,” and the scammers demanded “tax fees” to release it.

🧠 SHIELDGUARD LEARN: PREVENTIVE EDUCATION

1. Beware the “Beautiful Stranger” (The Flirting Tax)

If an unknown person with a high-quality female DP messages you out of the blue, assume it is a scripted bot or a team of scammers in a labor camp. Flirting with strangers on Telegram is the fastest way to a “Flirting Loss.” Professional scammers exploit the male ego to bypass financial caution.

2. The “Wrong Number” is NEVER an Accident

Real people who dial a wrong number apologize and hang up. Scammers use “Wrong Number” messages as a verified social engineering tactic to see who is “polite” enough to engage. Politeness is a vulnerability in cyber-security.

3. Verify the “Proof of Profit”

Never trust a dashboard that isn’t on a Top-Tier, audited DEX or CEX. Scammers can code a website to show any number they want. Just because your screen says you have $3M doesn’t mean the liquidity exists.

4. The “Tax/Processing Fee” Red Flag

No legitimate exchange will ever ask you to pay more money to withdraw your existing money. If you are told you need to pay a “withdrawal fee” or “tax” to unfreeze your funds, the money is already gone. Do not send more.
